Happy Thanksgiving!

The St. John the Baptist Social Services Program wishes to thank everyone who donated so generously including the school, groups, companies, and individuals and also those who gave so much of their time to make the Thanksgiving Day food drive a success!

85 Baldwin Park families were helped with over 70 receiving turkeys and three more hams!

So, thank you again.

Thanksgiving Day Update

Thank you for your generosity in the Thanksgiving Day food drive to help families in Baldwin Park.
So far, the program has collected:

-111 boxes of mashed potatoes/bags of potatoes (48 new this week)
-58 boxes of stuffing (21 new this week)
-92 cans of cranberries (44 new this week)
-77 cans of yams (33 new this week)
-167 other food items (80 new this week)
-40 packages of bread/rolls (38 this week)
-5 turkeys (3 new this week)

You can drop food into the boxes at the doors in church or at the Social Services Program office.

Police Community Workshop on Cybersafety

The Baldwin Park Police Department will hold a free community workshop for parents on the subject of cybersafety for teens, including "sexting" (the sending of explicit texts or photos via cell phones). The National Center to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy estimates 1 in 5 teens have sent nude or semi-nude photos of themselves via cell phone.

When: 6:30 p.m., Thursday, December 3
Where: Arts & Recreation Center, 14403 E. Pacific Avenue, Baldwin Park

Special Christmas Request

St. John the Baptist Social Services will be holding its annual Christmas toy drive in December, gathering toys to help brighten the lives of children.

At the same time, there are some families in very challenging circumstances with older children, where toys are not optimal gifts.

Any donations of gift cards and similar presents for older children and teens would be terrific!

Employment Available: US Census

The United States Census is seeking workers in the Baldwin Park area.

Information on positions available, sample tests, contacts and other information is available at the Social Services Office. Materials are in English and Spanish.

LA Voice Update

Due to a shortage of staff and financial, LA Voice has decided to delay its possible expansion to the San Gabriel Valley for the near future. The St. John the Baptist Social Services program is evaluating other ways to help develop solutions for community issues in Baldwin Park and the region.

Thanksgiving Day Partner

St. John the Baptist Social Service is pleased to announce the Knights of Columbus Council 5650 St. Daniel Comboni Council is helping Social Services aid some Baldwin Park families this year for Thanksgiving Day. The Knights are even delivering the food to some families! Thank you so much.

Immigration News Update

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) recently reached a legal agreement with a coalition of parties including the National Immigration Law Center regarding processing of citizenship applications. The agreement will speed up the process for citizenship approvals by ensuring FBI name checks are done in a more timely manner for those who have already applied and those applying in the future. For those who have applied and are awaiting approval, there is no need for any additional action.

City Survey Available

Please stop by the Social Services Program office to fill out a city-sponsored survey on the needs of Baldwin Park residents. The parish hopes to collect over 1,000 completed forms!

Over 450 people attended last Sunday's health fair. Thank you to the exhibitors and visitors! Also thank you to the Baldwin Park Unified School District for publicizing the event.

Social Services This Weekend!

This weekend is a busy one for Social Services ...

-Saturday, November 7, St. John the Baptist Social Services will be hosting a tent at the Baldwin Park Festival at Morgan Park. Please stop by!

-Sunday, November 8, St. John the Baptists Social Services is hosting a health fair from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parish hall. Come and visit! Plus, there are two bikes to be raffled!

Also, this weekend, the program is giving Baldwin Park residents the opportunity to have a say in the community by filling out a city-sponsored survey on issues affecting daily life. Come help bring the total to 1,000 surveys!

Please continue to bring in food itewms for the Thanksgiving Day drive. Every bit counts!

The Social Services program at St. John the Baptist continues its annual tradition of helping people in Baldwin Park.

Would you like to help?

-help sort and prepare meal bags for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day

-donate some of the requested food items for Thanksgiving Day

- help sort and wrap gifts for Christmas Day

-donate toys for Christmas Posada

-donate supplies including ribbon, black markers, sweets/candies, gift tags, and tape

-help financially

-pray for the success of the program, the recipients and the donors
